Top prospect Chris Kreider is in contract discussions with the Rangers, ESPNNewYork.com has learned.
It is believed the 20-year-old center will forego his senior season with Boston College to turn pro. Whether that means he will join the Rangers and have the opportunity to make his NHL debut in the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs remains to be seen, however.
Kreider led his Boston College Eagles to a national title with a Frozen Four win over Ferris State Saturday in Tampa. With his junior season over, he is now free to sign his entry-level contract with the team. The former first round pick would be eligible to play for the Rangers in the post-season.
According to several reports, Kreider's teammate Brian Dumoulin is expected to sign with Carolina today.
