The Devils reacted to Claude Giroux’s Game 5 suspension for his Game 4 hit on Dainius Zubrus:
“You don’t like to see anyone get suspended. I know Claude Giroux. He’s a great player and he’s not a dirty player,” coach Peter DeBoer told reporters Tuesday morning.
“But it was a dangerous hit and we’re fortunate there wasn’t a serious injury.”
Said Zubrus: “I think [Brendan Shanahan] called it as he saw it. I can’t say that I disagree with him.
• After missing Game 4 due to sickness, Ryan Carter will return to the lineup for Game 5. That means Tim Sestito will be scratched after filling in for Carter.
That’s the Devils’ only change, DeBoer said.
• When leading a best-of-seven series 3-1, the Devils are 6-3 in Game 5s; 9-0 in series.
• When trailing in a best-of-seven series 3-1, the Flyers are 8-7 in Game 5s; 1-14 in series.
Philadelphia came back to eliminate Boston in the 2010 quarters en route to an appearance in the finals.
