Devils seek sixth straight

By Katie Strang

The surging New Jersey Devils aim to rattle of their sixth straight win Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes at Newark's Prudential Center Tuesday night. At 8-1-3 the Devils rank first in the Eastern Conference standings with a two-point lead on the Boston Bruins, who host the New York Rangers Tuesday at TD Garden.

Looking to extend their streak, the Devils will likely be without forward Dainius Zubrus, who is expected to miss his fourth straight game with an upper-body injury. According to both The Bergen Record and The Newark Star-Ledger, the 34-year-old was not on the ice for the team's morning skate and will likely sit out Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes.

Zubrus is still listed as day-to-day, although there seems to be growing concern that the injury could be a significant one.

The 34-year-old winger, who had previously been playing on the team's top line, is on the last year of a six-year, $20.4 million deal with the Devils. He finished with 17 goals and 27 assists last season for the Devils.

18-year-old rookie (and Zubrus' tenant), Stefan Matteau has remained with the team in Zubrus' absence. Matteau played his sixth NHL game against the Lightning last week, triggering the first year of his entry-level contract.

Defenseman Mark Fayne was also absent from Tuesday's morning skate because of a death in the family, but he is expected to play vs. Carolina.
