Rangers-Devils: The morning after

By Mike Hume

Though Henrik Lundqvist stoned them 43 times, it could be the clanging of the pipes that haunts the Devils for the next few days, as a few posts and crossbars were all that separated them from a losing streak-snapping win.

Instead, the Devils’ skid extends to six games and the Rangers climbed another two points in the standings Wednesday night.

Here’s a look around the Rangers and Devils media the morning after.

Morning Links: The Blueshirts

The Rangers clamped down in the third, despite a so-so performance to that point, writes Andrew Gross.

With Erik Christensen leaving the game with a knee brace (and a mild knee sprain), the Rangers recalled Dale Weise from Hartford, according to the team’s site.

The Rangers are still grinding, even without Ryan Callahan, Larry Brooks says.

Old news by now, but Brooks dives into the demotion of Todd White a little more.

Jesse Spector’s chat with Brian Boyle after the game paints a mature picture of the club, with Boyle saying they didn’t need a lecture from John Tortorella (one they didn’t receive) to know they had to pick up their play after a dismal first period.

Rick Carpiniello thinks the Rangers' recent loose play might lead to a losing streak, among a few other observations.

Blueshirt Banter breaks down the victory in detail.

Morning Links: The Devs

The Devils felt they were a little unlucky last night, according to Tom Gulitti (and I tend to agree).

One positive the Devils are drawing is an increase in intensity, also per Gulitti.

In Rich Chere’s summary for the Star-Ledger, Jason Arnott says he didn’t swear at the officials when he earned an extra two minutes following a holding minor. Given the verbal abuse the refs endured from Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin in Wednesday night’s episode of HBO’s 24/7, that’s pretty surprising to see such a hair trigger in Arnott’s instance. Perhaps that’s another benefit of star power.

In Lou We Trust says the Devils outplayed the Rangers but still couldn’t get the W.

Brian Rolston will be available on re-entry waivers, with the Devils footing the half his bill should another team claim him.
