Isles to pick 4th at 2012 NHL Draft

By Katie Strang

The Edmonton Oilers won the NHL Draft Lottery to secure the first overall pick for the third consecutive year while the Islanders retained No. 4 in Tuesday's televised event.

By virtue of their bottom-five finish -- the team finished in 27th place -- the Islanders had a 10.7% chance to nab No. 1 overall. Instead they retained their position in fourth while the Oilers leap-frogged the 30th place Columbus Blue Jackets for the coveted pick. The Blue Jackets will now select second, Montreal Canadiens third and Toronto Maple Leafs fifth.

Last year, the Islanders slipped back a position to fifth, where they selected center Ryan Strome in the 2011 draft.
