Islanders forward Blake Comeau is scratched for Thursday's game against the Lightning, the team announced via its official Twitter account. This is the second straight game Comeau has been benched.
The 25-year-old winger was scoreless in his first three games, but is coming off a career-high season of 24 goals and 22 assists.
Coach Jack Capuano bristled when asked about why he scratched Comeau Saturday against the Rangers -- he has 18 points in 19 career games against the Blueshirts -- and refused to answer questions about the decision.
With last season's production -- an achievement more notable considering he played primarily with the team's third line and second power-play unit -- Comeau is a player that would likely garner interest from other teams.
The restricted free agent narrowly avoided arbitration with the Islanders this summer, signing a one-year, $2.5 million deal less than two days before his scheduled hearing.
