New York Hockey: hurricane sandy

UPDATE: If you weren't able to make the skate, the Islanders are also holding a Hurricane Sandy Relief Auction as part of the organization's Hockey with a Heart program. To see all the items/experiences available, scope the team's website here.

The New York Islanders are holding an open skate for fans at Nassau Coliseum Monday, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross' Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts.

Fans will be able to skate on Coliseum ice from 2 to 8 p.m. Donations and revenue from concessions will be given to the Red Cross. Island Harvest will also be collecting non-perishable items to distribute to Long Islanders in need.

Most needed items include: water, diapers, blankets, baby formula and canned food.
