Despite the Islanders holding what may be two of the most enticing trade targets in Thomas Vanek and defenseman Andrew MacDonald, neither player was moved in advance of the NHL Olympic roster freeze, which went into effect Friday at 3 p.m. ET.

Both unrestricted free agents are expected to be shopped again once NHL play resumes, however, with neither player appearing interested in signing an extension with the Islanders as the March 5 NHL trade deadline looming.

Besides a minor deal between the Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets and a similarly un-splashy swap between the Isles and Blackhawks Thursday night, a deal that sent both Peter Regin and Pierre-Marc Bouchard to the Hawks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2014, there has been a dearth of activity during the window.
