Former Tennessee and Louisville QB Matt Simms, the son of Giants legend Phil Simms, will participate in this weekend's rookie camp as a non-roster invitee, a source confirmed.
Simms, a former standout at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey, finished up his college career at Tennessee. He started two games last season, against teams that were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the nation at the time (LSU and Alabama), and he finished with 319 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions.
Prior to Tennessee, Simms played at El Camino (Calf.) Community College. He began his college career at Louisville, but never started a game.
Simms will participate in the Jets' rookie camp, which runs Thursday to Sunday, on a tryout basis. So will former Albany QB Mike DiLella. G.J. Kinne, whom the Jets considered drafting in the seventh round, will be in camp as an undrafted free-agent signee.
The Jets have three quarterbacks ahead of them on the depth chart -- Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow and Greg McElroy.
The Record first reported Simms' invitation.

Some perspective required: #Jets are learning new offensive system, WR corps depleted, defense always ahead of offense this early.

Early thought on #Jets QB comp: Ugh. Sanchez 6-for-11, 3 INTs, 1 sack. (1 INT may have been a sack.) Geno Smith 3-for-10, 1 INT, 1 sack
