Rex Ryan spent Monday morning doing what he does, coaching an OTA practice. Three thousand miles away, in La-La Land, his big-screen debut was fast approaching.
Ryan plays a second-rate Boston attorney in the new Adam Sandler movie, "That's My Boy," which made its Hollywood premiere Monday night in red-carpet style. The movie opens nationally June 15.
"I expected it to be an Adam Sandler/Rex Ryan film," Ryan joked last Thursday on the Michael Kay Show on ESPN New York 98.7 FM. "I don't know why it's not out there like that."
Ryan plays only a small part, but it sounds pretty funny. He plays a diehard Patriots fan who keeps a Bill Belichick bobblehead on his desk and Tom Brady poster on his office wall. In his scene with Sandler, Ryan refers to the bobblehead and the poster, calling Belichick a "genius" and saying Brady looks "heroic" in the poster.
I don't think Darrelle Revis would agree with that assessment of Belichick.
