On Friday, the Super Bowl champion Giants will be feted at the White House -- the same White House that Rex Ryan famously declared three years ago as the Jets' intended travel destination.
New York Giants
The Jets still are looking for that elusive trip to the Rose Garden. The Giants are heading back for the second time in four years, and one of their star players -- DE Osi Umenyiora -- couldn't resist a jab at their cross-town rivals.
Umenyiora, in an interview Tuesday with the NFL Network, described what he perceives as the biggest difference between the two franchises -- the Jets are all about the hype, the Giants the hardware.
"At the end of the day, man, we do things a little bit differently out here," Umenyiora said. "We go out there on the football field and play. The Jets, you know, they're a good football team themselves, man, but they have a lot of things going on that a lot of people are interested in, and you know, they're more interested in that than us, going out there and actually winning the Super Bowl.
"So, there's nothing wrong with that; much respect to the New York Jets, man. Hopefully, things will keep on going that way."
The Giants have what the Jets want -- the Lombardi Trophy. The Jets are in no position to talk back, especially after getting whipped by the Giants in Week 16. Ryan, of all people, acknowledged he wants to be like the Giants.
"Just like the Giants were last year, I want to be special," Ryan said last week.
Maybe someday. Right now, the Giants have the bragging rights.
