FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Darrelle Revis is looking forward to a sit-down with the Jets' front office to try and hash out a new deal -- something he says is inevitable.
"Sooner or later it has to (happen)," Revis said with a laugh. "I've got two more years left. We'll go from there.”
Revis, who has not talked much about holding out during training camp but hasn't excluded the possibility, was in attendance on the first day of the Jets' three-day minicamp. The cornerback said he hasn't heard from his agent in a few days, but there hasn't been any movement in talks.
Revis is in the final two years of a $46 million deal signed in 2010 after he held out of camp. He said he has learned from that holdout.
"I have grown," Revis said. "This is my sixth year. I've grown. (I've) been in a lot of situations. You guys got to remember, even when I was a rookie, my rookie contract I came in late. The second one, it was the same type of scenario. We'll see.
"When me, (general manager Mike Tannenbaum) and Rex (Ryan) and (team owner Woody Johnson) sit down, at that point then we'll discuss it and see what the future is for me."
Revis had no timetable for a sit-down to take place, but has expressed a desire to retire as a Jet.
"When you think about those things, yeah, they're in the back of your mind," Revis said.
Revis has heard from the fans who hold his holdouts against him. As solid a player as he is -- arguably the best corner in the league and the best player on his team -- the fans have taken issue with his negotiating tactics in the past.
"It's not like I don’t love the New York Jets fans and love the city, love Jersey, love Manhattan," Revis said. "It's nothing about that. This is a situation in my career right now and sooner or later we have to talk about it."
He has heard from some unhappy fans via Twitter, and asks them not to take it personally.
"I think that's just how the fans can look at it," Revis said. "You can't look at it like, 'I hate you,' or those types of things I get on Twitter."
