LaDainian Tomlinson, who spent the past two seasons with the Jets, will sign with San Diego and announce his retirement at a news conference Monday, the Chargers announced Sunday.

Both Tomlinson and Chargers president Dean Spanos will speak at the 2 p.m. ET news conference Monday.

The Chargers selected Tomlinson fifth overall in the 2001 draft and he is the franchise's all-time leader in rushing yards and touchdowns. He was released by San Diego in 2010.

Tomlinson, 32, ranks fifth on the all-time rushing list with 13,684 yards. His 145 career rushing touchdowns rank second, and his 162 total touchdowns rank third all-time.

He was the NFL's MVP in 2006, when he set league single-season records with 31 touchdowns, including 28 rushing, and 186 points. Tomlinson won the NFL's rushing title in 2006 and '07.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
