CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Thoughts on Day 3:
1. Tough talk from Rex. Rex Ryan gets mocked for pumping up his players, but he showed some bite, calling out Jeremy Kerley. Ryan said he's "disappointed" with the second-year receiver, declaring that Kerley needs to step up. I can't remember the last time Ryan criticized a player publicly. Clearly, he was using the media to send a message, which is fine. Bill Parcells did it all the time. Kerley is struggling to learn the new offense. For Ryan to criticize him like that, it must be a serious struggle. The last thing they need is another question mark at wide receiver.
2. Tebow is Tebow. Tim Tebow's passes were all over the place in practice, and he heard it from the fans, but what did you expect? He's not a gifted thrower -- we all knew that -- but let's keep one thing in mind: He's a gamer. Put him in the huddle and something happens; he moves his team, albeit in ugly fashion. I'm not saying Tebow is better than Mark Sanchez, but playing quarterback isn't a passing contest. It's all about winning. All I'm saying is, let's not pile on because he doesn't throw a pretty ball.
3. Landry time. S LaRon Landry made his Jets practice debut, broke up a deep pass, nearly got into a scuffle and generally made his presence felt in limited work. To me, he's one of the most intriguing players on the team. We're talking about the sixth overall pick in the 2007 draft; you know he has talent. If he can overcome his injury issues, it'll change the complexion of the secondary.

RIP, Dave Jennings, a terrific punter for #Giants and #Jets in 1970s and 80s. Became an outstanding broadcaster for both teams. Class act.
