CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Quick takeaways from Monday:
1. Keeping it simple. The Jets are four practices into training camp, and they've yet to have a goal-line drill or a red-zone period. Clearly, new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano is taking a gradual approach. He apparently doesn't want to overwhelm the players with too much information as they attempt to learn his system. Heck, they haven't even run a Wildcat play yet.
2. Beat the clock. Rex Ryan said Monday the quarterbacks are holding the ball too long in the pocket. He didn't name names, but it's obvious that Tim Tebow is the primary culprit. To combat the problem, Ryan said he's planning to implement a clock/buzzer on every play. In other words, the quarterback will have a certain amount of time to deliver the pass ... or the buzzer will sound. They tried it last season after Mark Sanchez got pounded by the Ravens in Week 4.
3. Sanchez-Holmes click. Sanchez and WR Santonio Holmes, whose relationship was so strained late last season that Sanchez barely looked his way in the Miami finale, were on fire in team drills. In fact, four of Sanchez's six completions went to Holmes, including a well-timed in-cut (about 18 yards) and a pretty crossing route. In a seven-on-seven drill, there was an improv play in which Holmes ran across the field to bail out an on-the-move Sanchez. Baby steps, right?

Hard to pinpoint reason for false starts. Worth noting that I don't think they had any yesterday. Have to expect some in rookie camp. #Jets

The late George Sauer was overshadowed by HOFer Don Maynard, but he was fine WR. Made 4 straight Pro Bowls, 2x All Pro for Namath & Co.

Some people have been asking if the #Jets have a new No. 15 (Tebow). His name is WR Zach Rogers, undrafted from Tenn. Impressed on Day 1.
