Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum met with reporters Tuesday to talk about Jeff Otah, the Panthers tackle who didn’t pass his physical to validate a trade to the Jets. He also addressed a few other issues:

Santonio Holmes told Stephen A. Smith on ESPN New York 98.7 FM that he was the scapegoat for the Jets' struggles last year. Tannenbaum conceded that the 2011 season was a disappointment, but expects Holmes to be valuable this season.

“Going back to last year I think we all could have done things better including myself in terms of how the team was made,” Tannenbaum said. “Moving forward I think he’s done some great things for us in the offseason program this year, I’ve seen him work with his teammates, he’s been very coachable.”

But was Tony Sparano brought in, as Holmes contended, to restore locker room unity?

“No he was brought in to run our offense,” Tannenbaum said.

Tannenbaum didn’t rule out a move to bring in a veteran wide receiver, on the day that former Jet Braylon Edwards signed with the Seahawks, although he did joke, “Does that include Cromartie, does that count?”

Cornerback Antonio Cromartie has taken a handful of reps at receiver for the Jets. As for Edwards, the Jets did not make a move to nab the free agent, who last played with the team in 2011.

“Braylon did a great job when he was here,” Tannenbaum said. “He’s a good player and I’m sure he’ll play well for Seattle this year.”

Quarterback Mark Sanchez hasn’t had a steady lineup of receivers in his three years with the team. Only tight end Dustin Keller has been a starter the whole time. Tannebaum said he would like to have less movement, but that’s not realistic.

“To say you’re going to be here 10 years with Mark that’s a heavy lift given the constraints of the (salary) cap,” Tannenbaum said.

Like head coach Rex Ryan, the general manager is disappointed in wide receiver Jeremy Kerley. The second-year wideout has not grasped the Sparano offense as quickly as the Jets would have liked.

Tannenbaum also addressed the situation with cornerback Darrelle Revis, who held an option to hold out. Did Tannenbaum promise, as Revis contends, to rework his contract before the start of this season?

“Anything as it relates to his contract I’m just not going to address but like I said I’m really glad that he’s here,” Tannenbaum said. “He’s been a great team member and just watching him in the conditioning run I know he’s ready to play at another high level which is all that he’s done since he’s been here.”

Lastly, what has Tannenbaum seen from his new backup quarterback, Tim Tebow?

“Tim’s a really hard-working competitive guy, he’s still learning the offense, it’s early from that standpoint,” Tannenbaum said. “I think when the games start he’ll be exciting, and he’s a quarterback that can help us in a lot of different roles.”
