CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Recapping Wednesday in training camp:
1. Taking the team's pulse. Rex Ryan, responding to the Antonio Cromartie/Chaz Schilens feud, made it clear that he's not asleep at the wheel. Ryan, who famously admitted after last season that he "lost the pulse" of the team, said he was aware of the matter and will deal with it internally. This hasn't been an easy camp for Ryan. He's got a cornerback who thinks he's a budding star at receiver (Cromartie) and a receiver (Santonio Holmes) who thinks he's an offensive coordinator.
2. The tight ends are in shape. They used a lot of three tight end packages in practice -- in part because they had to. Because of a rash of muscle pulls, the offense was down to only four healthy receivers by the end of practice. Ryan, displeased, said some of the wideouts didn't come to camp in top shape. (The team went out of its way to let the media know he wasn't referring to Holmes, who sat out the final period with an undisclosed "soft-tissue injury.") Coordinator Tony Sparano shifted gears and called on his tight ends. Dustin Keller made a nice grab on a fourth-down pass from Mark Sanchez during a two-minute drill, and Josh Baker continued his solid camp with a couple of nice plays.
3. All quiet on the Tebow front. Tired of reading about Tim Tebow? Well, this was your kind of day. The world's most famous backup quarterback, in limited reps, threw only four passes in team drills and ran a couple of fake punts on special teams. I guess there is life beyond Tebow. That will change tomorrow.
