CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Another day, another round of fights at the Jets. My takeaways:
1. No more Mr. Nice Guy. We saw a different side of Rex Ryan, who lashed into his team -- twice -- after practice skirmishes. It was as angry as I'd ever seen him. Clearly, he's trying to run a tighter ship this season, judging by some of his actions in training camp. Let's see how the team responds. If it continues to display a thug mentality in practice, it'll be a telling commentary on his ability to control the team.
2. In the Nick of time. C Nick Mangold returned to the team Tuesday after spending a few days in London, where he watched his sister compete in the Olympics. He didn't make it back in time for practice, but he attended afternoon meetings and will practice Wednesday. The line missed him dearly. Caleb Schlauderaff is a guard, not a center -- and he's killing the first-team offense with his lack of experience. LB Aaron Maybin has had a field day with Schlauderaff, blitzing up the middle for non-contact sacks. They'd be crazy to put Mark Sanchez in a game behind Schlauderaff. Welcome back, Nick.
3. Watch your back, Joe. Once again, Ryan made a point to praise second-year RB Bilal Powell, who is having an outstanding camp. At the rate he's going, it would be a surprise if he doesn't leap-frog Joe McKnight on the depth chart. Frankly, Powell has looked like the best back on the field, but he'll have to prove it in the games. He'll be one of the players to watch Friday night in Cincinnati.

For those who want Idzik to cut Goodson asap to send message: He's deliberate on big decisions, i.e Revis, Tebow. Figures to do same here.

Idzik's interest in QB market, post-Garrard, shows he's not content with Sanchez/Smith. He wants options. Hardly a vote of conf for Sanchez.

Per @TonyGrossi, the #Jets expressed interest in QB Hoyer before he signed w/ Browns. As noted yesterday, Idzik not content to stand pat.
