CINCINNATI -- Funny guy, that Mark Sanchez. In halftime quotes distributed by the Jets, Sanchez made a Tim Tebow reference (jokingly) when discussing his first-half performance.

Here's Sanchez:

On his performance in the game: "You know it’s the first preseason game, (we’re) trying to shake the dust off and get back in the swing of things. Their pressure got to us a little bit those first two drives. (The) third drive we started to move the ball a little bit. Got a little scramble there, channeling my inner (Tim) Tebow (laughter) and got a first down so that was good. I got hit a little bit (and) hit the dirt. It was good for all of us. We’ll get better with protection and have a better outing next time."

On what excites him about Tony Sparano’s offense: "I love the tempo, I love our speed. We weren’t even close to running down the play clock. We were really moving with great tempo. The way he gets the calls in and out, I’m a big fan of using the wristband. So, it’s all good with Coach Sparano. (There are) a lot of things to coach up but that’s the way you want to start. We have a lot of things to work on."

On getting refocused after last season: "I think one of the most important things was let’s attack this season. Not think about last season anymore, completely move on and then come in with a great attitude. (I’m) going into my fourth year, I’m not a young quarterback anymore. I’ve seen a lot of playoff experience. I’ve seen a lot of games now. I’ve played against some good defenses and with that experience comes a little maturity and I just feel good about things. I feel good about the vibe in our building and the personnel we’ve put together. Mr. (Mike) Tannenbaum and Rex (Ryan) have put together a good squad here so I’m excited about the whole group and let’s get at it."
