CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Jets conducted their final practice in Cortland, a closed-to-the-public session in which they practiced the Wildcat package for the second time in three days.
Due to restrictions imposed by the team, which was operating within league rules, the media weren't allowed to report details of the Wildcat. This time, there wasn't as much fuss, and there wasn't as much paranoia by the Jets.
Other practice notes:
TOUGH DAY FOR TIM: Backup QB Tim Tebow ended camp with one of his worst days -- 2-for-10, with an interception and four sacks. In fairness, we have to mention that the pass protection was awful by the second-team line. It was a jailbreak on almost every play. In one sequence, there was a sack on three consecutive drop backs.
Give some credit to the second-team defense, which resembled the Giants' pass rush. LB Garrett McIntyre (two), LB Josh Mauga and CB Isaiah Trufant had sacks. At one point, coordinator Tony Sparano yelled at Tebow to get rid of the ball faster. Tebow was intercepted on a long pass to rookie WR Stephen Hill. It went off his hands to CB Kyle Wilson, who has made several big plays in camp.
Tebow got a chance to run a two-minute drill, but it didn't last very long -- only five plays, ending on a fourth-and-9 incompletion.
QB Mark Sanchez was solid, completing five of six passes.
INJURY REPORT: WR Santonio Holmes (ribs), WR Jeremy Kerley (hamstring), NT Sione Pouha (back), WR Chaz Schilens (ankle), LB Ricky Sapp (ankle) and CB Ellis Lankster (hamstring) were among those who didn't practice. At least Holmes made it out to the practice field; on Wednesday, he was nowhere to be found.
SHORT AND SWEET: Well, it wasn't so sweet. Afterward, Rex Ryan remarked that some players already had checked out mentally, which is understandable on the eve of getaway day. The practice went 20 minutes less than usual, but the offense stayed on the field for a walk-through, long after the defense had left. Ryan addressed the team for several minutes at the end of practice. He said it was strictly logistical stuff (checking out of dorms, traveling to New Jersey, etc.), nothing too exciting.
ODDS AND ENDS: RB Joe McKnight, WR Dexter Jackson and TE Dustin Keller stood out, offensively. Keller caught two TDs from Sanchez in a red zone, 7-on-7 drill.
