FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The Jets have a punting competition again.

They claimed journeyman Spencer Lanning on waivers Tuesday from the Cleveland Browns. The Bears also put in a claim for Lanning, but the Jets were higher in the waiver order.

T.J. Conley, whose job appeared to be in jeopardy after a poor performance two weeks ago against the Giants, rebounded with a solid game. But GM Mike Tannenbaum said they wanted to add competition.

Lanning has no experience in the NFL. This is his fourth team.
