This is sure to make frustrated fans scratch their heads.

As of Monday, the Jets still had $8.1 million in remaining salary-cap space, according to ProFootballTalk.com. That puts them right in the middle of the league, because 16 teams have more space than them.

It's based on the top 51 cap numbers. Once the regular season starts, the top 53 count toward the cap, plus all players on injured reserve and other reserve lists. Even then, the Jets still will have more than $7 million in room.

It certainly raises questions, especially with apparent deficiencies on offense. It should be noted that unused cap space can be rolled into next year's cap, which will come in handy for the Jets. They have 20 players in the final year of their contracts, plus there will be the not-so-small matter of Darrelle Revis' contract next offseason.
