FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Darrelle Revis' return to the lineup this week isn't a slam dunk.

"I don't think we can assume that," Rex Ryan said Monday. "To the NFL standards, he has to pass tests. He looks to be doing well, so hopefully he'll be playing."

Revis didn't make the trip to Pittsburgh over the weekend because he wasn't cleared after suffering a "mild" concussion in Week 1. The Jets knew early in the week they'd likely be without their star cornerback, but they didn't officially rule him out until Friday.

Revis, speaking to reporters for the first time since being declared out, agreed with the decision, saying he wasn't 100 percent late last week. And now? Revis said he's feeling "a lot better." For what it's worth, he looked and sounded better, joking with reporters and appearing more like his old self.

"I feel pretty good," he said. "I'm going through the tests and doing what I have to do to get back."

Revis did light, non-contact work last Friday, a positive step. But he still has to be cleared by a team doctor and an independent neurologist before he can return to full practice and play in a game.

The Jets face the Dolphins on the road this week. They missed their All-Pro cornerback badly against Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, who went 24-for-31 for 275 yards and two touchdowns. He completed passes to 10 different receivers, picking apart a secondary that used only three cornerbacks in the game.

Ryan provided no updates on other injured players. The biggest concern is FB John Conner, who entered the game with a minor MCL sprain in his right knee. An MRI revealed that he aggravated the same injury, according to a source. That's good news, meaning he should have a chance to play this week.

The coach didn't seem concerned about the helmet-to-helmet blow sustained by QB Mark Sanchez, who was drilled in the left side of his head by Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons. Ryan said he has "no idea" if Sanchez underwent any concussion-related tests, adding that his QB was "engaged" during sideline conversation and seemed fine.

His passing wasn't fine. After a hot start, Sanchez completed only six of 22 passes after the shot to the head.
