FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- For a team that completed only 10 of 27 passes in its last game, the Jets remain a confident bunch. Santonio Holmes, for one, believes they can have a rebound performance against the Dolphins' young secondary.
"With our skills and our speed, we should really take advantage of those guys," Holmes said Wednesday.
The Dolphins revamped their secondary, cutting veteran S Yeremiah Bell (now with the Jets) and trading CB Vontae Davis in the preseason. They have veteran corners, Sean Smith and Richard Marshall (a free agent from the Cards), but they're inexperienced at safety with Chris Clemons and Reshad Jones (combined total of 37 career starts).
"We'd like to get an upper edge and advantage against those guys early, so now they have to come out and defend us and play us in a respectable manner," Holmes said.
The Jets' passing game was fantastic in the opener, but Sanchez was only 10-for-27 against the Steelers. He targeted Holmes 11 times but completed only three. Rookie WR Stephen Hill was held without a catch.
