FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons was fined $21,000 by the NFL for his helmet-to-helmet hit on QB Mark Sanchez last Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Timmons revealed the fine on a Pittsburgh-area radio show. And he wasn't happy.

“What can you do? I was just playing ball,” Timmons told Joe Starkey of 93.7 The Fan, via ProFootballTalk.com. “I lowered my target like you’re supposed to do. I can’t help it if he slides or falls. It’s a tough spot to be in.”

This was a blatant helmet-t0-helmet shot, and Timmons was flagged by the officials. It seemed to have an effect on Sanchez, who completed only six of 22 passes after the hit.
