Well, that's a wrap; the "Hard Knocks" series is over. The fifth and final episode is built around the Darrelle Revis drama, but there are other nuggets as well:
• They really dump on FB Jason Davis, who is so frustrated with his lack of playing time that he refuses to enter a practice. He says, "I don't feel like going in." But Wednesday night, Davis tweeted that he was battling an ankle injury at the time. He didn't appreciate the way he was portrayed. Did "Hard Knocks" twist the truth a bit? It wouldn't have been the first time it was accused of doing that. When Davis gets waived, he tells GM Mike Tannenbaum that he will exact revenge when he faces the Jets on another team.
• Mark Sanchez pulls a practical joke on the defensive coaches, putting a stink bomb in their meeting room. But the coaches get him back by filling his SUV with styrofoam packing peanuts. Says defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, "You stab us, we shoot you."
• Backup QB Mark Brunell tells Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan that he's noticed that Sanchez is becoming a better leader, "demanding more out of the guys. He's grown up a bunch."
• They follow WR David Clowney, whose time with the Jets comes to an end. Special teams coach Mike Westhoff on Clowney: "Clowney doesn't make a difference for us." Ouch.
• Cool conversation between Ryan and O.C. Brian Schottenheimer. They're talking about the joys of high-school football and how far they've come.
Ryan: "We gotta go get us a damn Super Bowl, period."
Schottenheimer: "I don't have one. You at least have one. Shoot, you think my family doesn’t want one? I'd love more than anything to give my father my Super Bowl ring. And I’d make him take it." (His father is former coach Marty Schottenheimer, a successful coach who never won the big one.)
• It appears that Kellen Clemens is removed from the final pre-season game for a series because he fumbled. Ryan, fed up with the fumbling in that game, told the team that fumblers would come out. At the time, Ryan said Clemens came out because of a stinger in his hand. This sounds crazy, but Clemens was seen on the sideline, flexing his fingers after the sack/fumble.
• There's nothing about Tony Richardson, his one-day in limbo and his return. Boo! That would've been good TV.
• It was disappointing they didn't show more footage from the final, tense moments of the Revis negotiation. It would've been nice to see the final phone call between the Jets and Revis' agents. It's almost like they ran out of time at the end, trying to squeeze in too much.
