FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Dedrick Epps might be the answer to a trivia question one day: He caught Tim Tebow's first pass with the Jets. It didn't do him much good, though, as Epps was waived Monday with a knee injury.

The Jets needed a roster spot to make room for newly-signed CB Aaron Berry. They might have cut Epps anyway, though, because starting TE Dustin Keller appears ready to return from a hamstring injury. Thing is, now they have to pay Epps, because he suffered a knee injury Sunday on his 9-yard reception -- a play on which he fumbled the ball away to the 49ers. If Epps clears waivers, they can put him on injured reserve.

BACK TO OFFENSE FOR MCKNIGHT: Joe McKnight's career at cornerback lasted one week.

After signing Berry, Rex Ryan announced that McKnight will return to running back. He was switched to cornerback last week in the aftermath of the Darrelle Revis injury, with Ryan singing McKnight's praises as a multi-dimensional athlete with cornerback skills.

McKnight ended up playing two snaps in Sunday's loss to the 49ers, blitzing twice from the slot. Now Ryan is talking about how he wants to use McKnight as a runner. He's been yanked around so much that it wouldn't be a surprise if he ends up on the injury report with whiplash.

'ABSURD' DEFENSE: The Jets are ranked 31st in run defense, allowing 173 yards per game.

"It's absurd," LB Bart Scott said.

Ryan, in his weekly spot on "The Michael Kay Show" on ESPN New York 98.7 FM, said the Jets missed 17 tackles.
