FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The Jets haven't provided any details about Santonio Holmes' season-ending foot injury, which will require surgery, but ESPN injury expert Stephania Bell said the typical recovery time for a Lisfranc injury is six months.
That means Holmes should be ready to go by training camp next summer, but there will be peaks and valleys once he returns to full activity, she said. His position, wide receiver, which demands a lot of cutting, will make it "a very slow process," she said.
Holmes suffered significant ligament damage in the mid-foot region, according to a source. The ligament connects the bones in the middle of the foot. Typically, screws are inserted to create stability. Once it heals, the screws are removed -- although, in some cases, the athlete can choose to leave the screws.
Holmes will have to be off his left foot for six weeks after surgery, according to Bell. It probably will be four to five months before he can run. His rehab program likely will include running in the pool and on an Alter G treadmill.
"It's a very complicated injury," Bell said. "Imagine if the middle part of your foot collapsed on you. It would be incredibly painful."
Arthritis could develop if it doesn't heal well, she said.

I'm wondering if Jay Z makes it to Cortland this summer for training camp. I'm sure he'd be a big hit at Doug's Fish Fry. #Jets
