FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The Jets have signed defensive tackle Daniel Muir and placed linebacker Josh Mauga on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle. Muir will be needed to produce right away -- the team is thin at the defensive tackle spot as Sione Po'uha and Kenrick Ellis battle injuries.
Muir, 29, signed with the Packers in 2007 after not being drafted out of Kent State. Muir later played for the Colts from 2008-11, starting 26 games during that time. Muir tried to make Green Bay's roster this summer but was released before the start of the season. He's 6-2 and 322 pounds.
"We're excited to add him," Jets coach Rex Ryan said.
Po'uha missed Monday's game with his back problem and will not practice today. Ellis suffered a sprained MCL in the fourth quarter Monday; Ryan said "it doesn't look good" for Ellis to play this week against Indianapolis.
If those two can't go, that leaves rookie Damon Harrison as the healthy defensive tackle, and he played just five snaps against the Texans. Ryan did say that defensive end Mike DeVito could move into the middle, but that would obviously compromise the team on the edges.
Mauga is a third-year linebacker who has appeared in all of the team's games over the last two season. He played 50 snaps over the first give games and had three tackles on defense.
"It's just unfortunate, obviously," Ryan said of Mauga's injury.

For those who want Idzik to cut Goodson asap to send message: He's deliberate on big decisions, i.e Revis, Tebow. Figures to do same here.

Idzik's interest in QB market, post-Garrard, shows he's not content with Sanchez/Smith. He wants options. Hardly a vote of conf for Sanchez.
