Whether he plays a significant role or not, Tim Tebow already has helped the Jets in their bid to upset the Patriots on Sunday.

Because of his familiarity with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Tebow simulated Tom Brady on the Jets' scout team all week in practice. Tebow knows McDaniels from their days in Denver. McDaniels was the head coach when Tebow was drafted in the first round in 2010.

"Tebow had a good grasp playing under Josh McDaniels and being drafted by Josh, so he did a nice job at quarterback for us, I thought," Rex Ryan said Friday. "The scout team did well. We did our best out there. I thought our preparation was good."

In addition to playing Brady on the practice field, Tebow also assisted the Jets' coaches with insight in McDaniels' play calling.

Ryan also expressed concern with the Patriots' up-tempo, no-huddle attack, suggesting they run it so quickly that sometimes the defense doesn't get a chance to substitute. That's why LB Calvin Pace, in an interview with ESPNNewYork.com, called it "borderline illegal." By rule, the defense is allowed to sub if the offense makes a substitution. No doubt, the Jets' coaches will remind the officials of that before the game.

"They will substitute and still speed it up," Ryan said Friday. "Sometimes when they substitute, you're supposed to be allowed to substitute with them. We'll see about that, but they move at such a quick pace that you have to be alert and if you have to sub, you have to make your substitution extremely quick.

"Sometimes (you have to) anticipate and go. What they do is super quick. Still, the rules are (that) you have to be set a full count. They're set a full count, but you have to know it's a count and here it comes. It certainly is a challenge. Miami runs no-huddle. Buffalo runs no-huddle. A lot of teams are running no-huddle, (but) we'll see. After the game, I'll be able to tell you more. The fact they're playing at home, I think (you will) see more of that no-huddle than perhaps you (will) on the road."
