With Jeff Cumberland sidelined with a dislocated hand, the Jets began formulating a contingency plan. They worked out two free-agent tight ends Tuesday, according to a league source -- Joey Haynos and Colin Cochart.
Haynos has played with four different teams, including the Dolphins (2008 to 2010), whom the Jets face Sunday at MetLife Stadium. There's your Tony Sparano connection. Haynos (6-foot-8) has 21 career receptions for 184 yards and three TDs.
Cochart was cut Sept. 6 by the Cowboys. He made the Bengals last season as an undrafted free agent, making five receptions for 44 yards and 1 TD in 10 games.
Cumberland said Monday he will miss this week's game, but is hoping to return immediately after the Jets' Week 9 bye.
