FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- LB Calvin Pace was a new name on the Jets' injury list Wednesday. He didn't practice because of a "nasty" shin injury, as Rex Ryan called it. But Ryan said he's encouraged that Pace will be able to play Sunday against the Dolphins.

RB Joe McKnight (high-ankle sprain) and LB Bart Scott (dislocated toe) also didn't practice. McKnight was "pretty sore" after playing last Sunday, according to Ryan. Scott has been battling a painful injury for several weeks. He played only nine snaps against the Patriots.

Others players not expected to practice include S Eric Smith (knee), RB Bilal Powell (shoulder), TE Jeff Cumberland (wrist) and C Nick Mangold. NT Sione Po'uha (back) was slated to be limited in practice, as he hopes to return this week.

QB Mark Sanchez, who wore a wrap on his jammed left thumb after Sunday's game, didn't have anything on the thumb at the start of practice.
