Peter Tebow is doing some damage control after a controversial tweet Saturday.

Just two days after tweeting that he was happy about seeing his younger brother Tim Tebow's former squad, Denver, lose in the AFC divisional round, Peter tweeted Monday: "My comment after the game was uncalled for. I may root for another team but I should never gloat about anyone's misfortune. I'm truly sorry."

After the Ravens eliminated the Broncos, Peter Tebow didn't shy away from expressing his feelings about the Broncos. He tweeted: "Am I the only one in Denver who's happy right now?" Peter also retweeted a fan's dig at John Elway, the former Broncos quarterback and current executive vice president of football operations: "'That's Karma, Elway.'--wife, Tebow-lover."

After Tim Tebow led Denver to the playoffs last season and even a wild-card win in overtime against Pittsburgh, Elway and the Broncos decided he wasn't their quarterback of the future and eventually shipped him to the Jets. Denver signed Peyton Manning, who led the team to a 13-3 record but failed to win a playoff game after falling to the Ravens on Saturday night.

While Peter's account is not verified, Tim tweeted earlier this year that the account is real: "I want to wish my big brother @PeterTebow a happy birthday! Love you and hope to see you soon!" The Highline Community Church (Colo.) website lists Peter as a young adult pastor.

Tim is still under contract with the Jets but his future is murky. The team rarely used him this season outside of special teams and passed on using him after benching starter Mark Sanchez. There was talk that the Jaguars might be interested in acquiring Tebow, but their new GM, Dave Caldwell, said he doesn't see a scenario in which the QB will come to Jacksonville.
