Staff update: Nine coaches gone

The Bills announced the hirings of 10 assistant coaches, including two former Jets aides -- assistant secondary coach Jim O'Neill and assistant defensive-line coach Anthony Weaver.

That makes nine coaching changes for the Jets. Here's a rundown of the departures:

Tony Sparano, offensive coordinator -- Fired.

Matt Cavanuagh, quarterbacks -- Fired.

Mike Pettine, defensive coordinator -- Hired by Bills as defensive coordinator.

Bob Sutton, linebackers -- Hired by Chiefs as defensive coordinator.

Anthony Weaver, assistant defensive line -- Hired by Bills as defensive-line coach.

Jim O'Neill, assistant secondary -- Hired by Bills as linebackers coach.

Mike Smith, outside linebackers -- Hired by Texas Tech as co-defensive coordinator.

Mike Westhoff, special teams -- Retired.

Bill Hughan, strength and conditioning -- Fired.
