The Jets acquired training-camp competition for incumbent PK Nick Folk, signing free agent Derek Dimke, his agent announced Thursday on Twitter.
It didn't take long for the Jets to make a decision; they worked him out Thursday. Dimke was scheduled to audition for the Seahawks.
Some scouting services rated him the top, draft-eligible kicker in 2012. Dimke, undrafted out of Illinois last year, spent the 2012 preseason with the Lions. He attempted only two field goals and made them both -- 40 and 31 yards. He failed to unseat longtime K Jason Hanson, who recently announced his retirement. Dimke thought he'd get a call to return, but the Lions signed David Akers and Norwegian Internet sensation Havard Rugland. He was the trick-shot kicker who worked out for the Jets late last season.
The Jets also signed free-agent P Ryan Quigley, who spent last preason in the Bears' camp. Quigley made the announcement on his Twitter account.
