UPDATE: Free-agent WR/KR Josh Cribbs visited with Jets on Wednesday.

The Jets, exploring the post-draft, free-agent market, are scheduled to meet in the coming days with former Browns WR/KR Josh Cribbs, ESPN Insider Adam Schefter reported Wednesday night.

Cribbs, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery, apparently is healthy and making visits. The former All-Pro kickoff returner was reportedly close to signing with the Cardinals in March, but there were questions about his knee. He visited Monday with the Raiders.

The Jets need an experienced receiver, and they've held discussions with former Giant Ramses Barden, according to a source. GM John Idzik also hinted recently they could be interested in re-signing Braylon Edwards. There also have been rumors about possible interest in Brandon Lloyd, most recently with the Patriots.

Cribbs wouldn't really address the Jets' need at receiver; he's always been known for his kick-returning ability. He's a Brad Smith-type player, capable of running the Wildcat. He appeared in only 62 offensive plays last season (less than Tim Tebow), catching just seven passes. His best year as a receiver was 2011, when he caught 41 passes. He turns 30 on June 9.

Joe McKnight's roster spot is hardly secure. They signed a player of his ilk, RB Mike Goodson, and they also traded for RB Chris Ivory. McKnight is a terrific kickoff returner, but he's the No. 4 tailback and could get squeezed in a numbers game. If they sign Cribbs, it won't bode well for McKnight.
