New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes has tweeted a few photos in the last few days that show him rehabbing from a Lisfranc injury to his left foot. A good part of the rehab involves a space-age looking treadmill called an AlterG.

Holmes has made a point of tweeting from inside the Jets facility in Florham Park, N.J. during a period when most players are off in the final weeks before training camp begins. The players are set to arrive on July 25 in Cortland, N.Y.
Is he ready to participate? Holmes hasn’t said definitely yet. After missing most of last season with the injury, Holmes did take a pay cut during the offseason. He will make $7.5 million, but he won’t get the $3.5 million in non-guaranteed money that was due.
During the Jets minicamp in June, Holmes said he didn’t hold any grudges.
“As far as taking the paycut,” Holmes said, “it’s what we all do in our profession in order to sustain a long-term career in one place. You have to be willing to sacrifice for the team and for the better not just for yourself.”
The truth is, the Jets need Holmes to be as productive as he was in the seasons the Jets reached the AFC Championship games. Recent rookie Stephen Hill, from his practices in OTAs and minicamp, doesn’t appear to have fixed his ball dropping problems. Jeremy Kerley should be solid in the slot and Clyde Gates has a year of experience with the team. But the cast of assembled receivers has struggled to catch the ball in practices.
Holmes alluded to the drops this spring in June. “It’s been a struggle,” Holmes said. “It’s been something that we as receivers really rely on is catching the ball.”
The Jets could get some production from new tight end Kellen Winslow, but the team will know more of what to expect from the 29-year-old veteran once training camp is underway.
Holmes may be the only proven receiver on the team, but his injury means he is far from a proven quantity. Clearly from the tweets, Holmes doesn’t want there to be any doubt that he takes that responsibility as seriously as everyone else.
