CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Six practices down, four to go before the first preseason game. Oh, yes, there's also Saturday night's Green & White scrimmage at SUNY Cortland.
On Friday, the Jets hit the field at 10 a.m. for practice. Stories we'll be following:

1. Real hitting: They will conduct the first goal-line drill in camp, which means live tackling. This was supposed to happen Thursday -- or so we thought. Turns out that Rex Ryan gave the wrong date to reporters, perhaps an indication of how much he's looking forward to some real football.
2. Geno's turn: After two days of backing up Mark Sanchez, rookie Geno Smith will work with the starting unit, per the quarterback rotation. Presumably, it means he'll get the first-team reps in the scrimmage since they're alternating every third day.
3. Tick, tick, tick: Is this the day that RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) makes his debut? If not, his availability for the preseason opener, next Friday in Detroit, would start to become a question.
4. Under the radar: Some unheralded players are starting to make their move. Ryan singled out WR Vidal Hazelton and C Dalton Freeman as players that have jumped out in camp. WR Ryan Spadola is another undrafted player turning heads. Spadola made a diving, 50-yard reception on a pass by Smith. This is the time when young players can make their move.
