FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Rex Ryan opened his news conference Thursday by asking fans to wear green to Sunday's game against the New England Patriots. The goal is to create a Green Out. The New York Jets also will distribute green cheering towels at MetLife Stadium.
This, of course, comes one week after the stadium was invaded by Terrible Towel-waving fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jets, claiming the promotion isn't a reaction to last week, said their idea had been in the works for months.
"I look at it as a sea of green, so the Patriots get to see that," Ryan said.
What next, a pep rally with a bonfire?
The Jets are pulling out all the stops for this game. Former wide receiver Wayne Chrebet, always a fan favorite, will serve as the honorary captain. That, too, should excite the crowd.
Now all the Jets have to do is ... like, you know, give them something to cheer about.
