Woody watches, teammates do push ups

He's getting closer.

RT Damien Woody (sprained knee) made an appearance on the practice field Friday, riding the stationary bike in uniform and observing positional drills. Woody didn't do any work during the 30-minute period open to the media, but this represented progress. On Thursday, he didn't make it to the field.

There's really no mystery, as Woody (and Rex Ryan) has stated that he will play Monday night against the New England Patriots. They're bringing him along slowly, and there's probably a chance he will do light work Saturday -- the final practice before Monday night's showdown.

DB Dwight Lowery, recovering from a concussion, participated without his red (no contact) jersey, another step toward returning to action.

This was a push up-laden practice. Penalties were called twice during a special-teams drills, prompting all players and coaches -- spread across two fields --to drop and do push-ups, per the Ryan mandate. On the second flag, GM Mike Tannenbaum, dressed in casual slacks and a winter jacket, also dropped to the grass and did push ups.
