Rex takes blame for Folk's latest miss

Nick Folk got a vote of confidence from Rex Ryan on Tuesday afternoon, a day after the Jets' kicker went 1-for-2 on field goal attempts in a 45-3 loss to the Patriots. Folk missed a 53-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter; he's missed six of his last 12 attempts.

"I think Nick will be our guy," Ryan said when asked about Folk on Tuesday.

Ryan took responsibility for the miss against the Patriots, saying he would reconsider his decision to have Folk's first attempt of the game come from a long distance. Ryan said Folk was kicking with the wind at this back when he missed from 53 yards. Folk hit a 39-yarder in the second quarter.

The Jets brought in Kris Brown for a tryout last week. In addition to being inconsistent on field goals, Folk nearly missed a PAT against the Bengals and has been short on kickoffs.

TACKLING DUMMY: CB Antonio Cromartie was burned twice by Deion Branch in the first half on Monday night, once for a touchdown. He whiffed while trying to tackle Branch on the receiver's quick slant on a fourth-and-3 that turned into a 25-yard touchdown play.

"It wasn't a good tackling day [for Cromartie]," Ryan said. "More than anything else, that was probably the biggest disappointment in his play. He's too long [Cromartie is 6-2] not to be a better tackler. He's done a great job up to this point of getting guys on the ground."

FORMULA FOR SUCCESS? The Jets fell to 1-3 against teams with winning records this season. They are 7-0 against teams with losing records.

Some might say that's an indication that the Jets will have trouble in remaining games against the Steelers (9-3) and Bears (9-3), and any team they face in the playoffs. But Ryan sees it as a formula for a 12-win season.

"That's usually the formula you take," said Ryan, who slept at the team facility on Monday night after the loss to the Patriots. "As long as I've been in the league, they always say you win games you're supposed to win, you split with the really good teams and that generally will get you ... it's a formula to win 12 games. That's always been a formula. That's what good teams do; you win the ones you're supposed to."

JETS INJURIES: Other than DB James Ihedigbo’s MCL/ankle injury, the Jets escaped Foxborough healthy, according to Ryan. He said Damien Woody, who played for the second straight week with sprained right MCL, dealt with expected soreness after the game. Ryan also said he wasn't aware of any residual effects of the shot Mark Sanchez took to the jaw on Monday night. It’s unclear when Sanchez got hit, but ESPN cameras showed Sanchez wincing when a coached touched his jaw on the sideline.
