The New York Jets officially added DB Emmanuel Cook to the roster on Wednesday morning to replenish their depleted defensive backfield. Jim Leonhard is out for the season with a broken right tibia and James Ihedigbo suffered what Rex Ryan called an injured MCL and ankle in the Jets’ 45-3 loss to the New England Patriots.

Ryan said on Tuesday that the Jets wanted to find a safety with knowledge of their system and Cook qualifies. He was with the team during training camp. The 22-year-old second-year player out of South Carolina was with the Jets during training camp but was released prior to the regular season.

Cook was on the practice field this morning. The Jets originally reached out to SKeith Fitzhugh. But Fitzhugh turned down their offer to remain a conductor with Norfolk Southern Railroad and stay on track financially while helping support his parents in Atlanta.

Ihedigbo was on the side during the portion of Wednesday’s practice open to the media. He underwent an MRI on Tuesday. The Jets haven’t released the results of the exam .

RTDamien Woody was not on the field during the portion of Wednesday’s practice open to the media. Woody suffered a sprained right MCL injury in late November but has played in the two games since his injury, so his absence today is probably just precautionary.

The Jets also added LB Brashton Satele and DB Isaiah Trufant to the practice squad. To make room for both players, the Jets released OT Andre Ramsey from the practice squad. They also lost LB Kenwin Cummings to the Dallas Cowboys.
