FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- You knew this day was coming.

New York Jets rookie wide receiver Shaq Evans, who suffered a significant shoulder injury during the first week of training camp, tweeted Tuesday morning that he will have surgery later in the day.

Evans, a fourth-round draft pick from UCLA, will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

Head coach Rex Ryan indicated recently that he expected Evans to wind up on IR. He becomes the second draft pick to have a season-ending injury. Third-round cornerback Dexter McDougle tore an ACL in practice and is awaiting surgery.
