ESPNNewYork.com was able to catch up with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell prior to discuss the ongoing labor situation.

ESPNNY: Why is free agency starting now?

Goodell: "We're trying to do everything in an orderly fashion. We got the (court) order late last night and we are trying to be responsive to that and consider everything."

We’ve go not only from a business standpoint, you have to operate you business in an orderly fashion, you also have competitive consideration that you have to make sure you’ve thought through.

ESPNNY: "Is there a tension between the timing of the draft and following the court order?"

Goodell: “Clearly the draft has some impact on it. That’s part of the competitive issues and that’s why you have to make sure you’re being intelligent, you’re being responsive and respectful to the courts decisio,n but you're also managing your business in an appropriate and responsible fashion."
