For those who missed Rex Ryan's appearance Monday night on "The Late Show with David Letterman," the first stop on the coach's book tour, the subject of Sal Alosi's infamous trip came up. Letterman, in vintage form, asked Ryan about Alosi and showed the clip of the former strength coach tripping Dolphins player Nolan Carroll.
“Fortunately, the young man wasn’t injured, so that was a good thing,” Ryan said of Carroll. “But it’s unfortunate, we had, I think, the best strength coach in football, and he’s no longer with us right now. It’s unfortunate and hopefully he’ll get another opportunity.”
Letterman asked Ryan if their strategy is to squeeze gunners toward the sideline on punt returns.
“We definitely try to knock him out of bounds, and that’s certainly within the rules,” Ryan said.
To which Letterman cracked, "And once he's out of bounds, hell, he might as well be in the parking lot. Might as well be on the Major Deegan."
The Alosi episode happened five months ago, and yet it doesn't seem to die. Just like week, I reported that Alosi is training Mike DeVito and D'Brickashaw Ferguson during the lockout in his home gym.
