You knew this was coming. Former Jets backup QB Kellen Clemens, almost traded and later almost released last year, agreed to a one-year contract Wednesday with the Redskins, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Clemens, a second-round pick in 2006, never developed into the quarterback the Jets envisioned. He got his big break in 2007, when Chad Pennington was benched, but he failed to convince the brass he was the long-term answer.

From that point on, Clemens slipped down the depth chart, passed over by the likes of Brett Favre, Mark Sanchez and Mark Brunell. He was unhappy last season as the No. 3 quarterback, but he was always classy and never complained about his role.

Clemens became expendable in April, when the Jets drafted Greg McElroy in the seventh round. Clemens knew he was a goner and didn't attend any of the team-organized "camps" during the lockout. He's a good dude that needed a change of scenery.
