The skies are overcast here in Cortland as the town prepares for Jets training camp which opens tomorrow. The players are heading here after meeting in Florham Park this morning. The most newsworthy item is the absence of CB Darrelle Revis.
Revis, widely regarded as the best corner in the NFL, is unhappy with a contract that pays him less than $600K this season. Rich Cimini has the story of the potential holdout here.
RB Joe McKnight, the Jets fourth-round pick in this year's draft, passed his conditioning run this morning after failing it two days ago. To get him, the Jets traded RB Leon Washington to Seattle. Yesterday, Washington saw limited practice with the Seahawks, his first steps back on the field after breaking his leg as a Jet during a game.
McKnight struggled when he arrived at the rookie camp, vomiting on the field and needing the attention of a trainer several times. He appeared to resolve his fitness issue during the OTAs. In early July, he told a New Orleans paper that he was working hard on his conditioning.
"It's helped me because a lot of papers described me as lazy and not hard-working. I'm still changing that perception of me," McKnight told the Times-Picayune.
The players should begin to arrive this afternoon, and many businesses have signs welcoming players and fans for the second straight summer. If you plan a trip, bring a raincoat -- it's in the forecast through Thursday.
