Santonio Holmes sounds like he wasn't in favor of the Derrick Mason trade.

"We thought we had a pretty good group of guys that were here," he said Thursday. "Unfortunately, the organization felt another way. We have to continue to deal with the punches that are thrown at us and continue rolling."

Holmes said he has no idea why Mason was dealt to the Texans.

"Not one clue," he said. "Everything he was doing around here seemed to be working just fine ... Nobody knows what happened. All I know is, we got phone calls and text messages saying Derrick Mason had been traded. Honestly, I don't know why the trade came about."

INJURY REPORT: C Nick Mangold (ankle), who missed practice for the second straight day, is expected to be limited Friday. He will play Monday night against the Dolphins. Mangold's ankle is "a little tender," according to Rex Ryan, and may need a couple of more weeks before it's right ... Ryan said he's not sure of DE Ropati Pitoitua (knee) will play. Maybe that explains why they called up DT Martin Tevaseu this week from the practice squad. Wouldn't it be something of Tevaseu, and not third-round pick Kenrick Ellis, replaces Pitoitua? Ellis still hasn't been active for a game ... WR Logan Payne (broken wrist) had the cast removed.

SOUND BYTE: TE Dustin Keller on whether he thinks former Jets LB Jason Taylor will be booed Monday night at Met Life Stadium: "I don't know if he won the fans over in his one year here. We'll see."

PENALTY PROBLEMS: After no penalties in the season opener, the Jets have committed 31 in the last four games, and Ryan is getting tired of it. Sound familiar? A year ago, they had penaltiy issues and players were required to do push ups in practice when they got flagged. Pretty soon, the entire organization, including office staff, was doing push ups in a show of support.

They haven't resorted to that --- yet. For now, they're using a different punitive technique. If a player commits a penalty in practice, he has to sit out a play. Frankly, the push-up routine is more interesting.
