It's rare that Rex Ryan encounters a subject that he doesn't want to talk about. It happened Thursday, and the subject was Joe Paterno's retirement amid the sexual-abuse scandal at Penn State.
"That's something that I probably don't want to touch, because I don't know anything about it," Ryan said. "So that's all I'll say."
Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, who has strong ties to the state of Pennsylvania, was more expansive than Ryan.
"It's sad," said Pettine, a former high-school coach in Pennsylvania and the son of a legendary high-school coach. "There's no positive spin you can put on this. This is a tragic way for a career to end ... It's affected me personally as well as people back home with ties to the program."
