'Tis the season for coaching rumors.
Jets coordinators Brian Schottenheimer and Mike Pettine have been mentioned as possible candidates for the Dolphins and Penn State coaching vacancies, respectively, but both coaches said Thursday they're not looking to leave the Jets.
In Schottenheimer's case, it's a rather remarkable turnaround. Just a few weeks ago, people were calling for his head.
"I'm just happy to have a job," Schottenheimer said, laughing. "A weeks ago, if you asked people, I was lucky to have a job ... This is the time of year for people to speculate and talk. This is the time of year for us to work."
Schottenheimer signed an extension last offseason and is under contract through 2013, but that wouldn't prevent him, by rule, from seeking a head-coaching position.
Pettine was linked to Penn State probably because of his Pennsylvania roots.
"I'm thrilled where I am," said Pettine, who is signed through at least 2012. "There's not much interest there. There hasn't been contact either way, so I think that was somebody doing the math -- Pennstlvania background, opening at a Pennsylvania school. I guess the next thing is, I'll be up for the Pitt job."
